OKC Local Food Guide
Where to Eat in Oklahoma City: The Ultimate Local's Food Guide for First-Time Visitors
If you're planning to travel to Oklahoma City for the first time, whether for business, tourism, or to visit family, you'll need to set aside time and room for some good old-fashioned local food. Fortunately for you, there is no shortage of fantastic spots us locals can't get enough of. As someone who has had my fair share of country-fried chicken and award-winning steak in Oklahoma City, I'll give you the scoop on some of the best places you can eat at when visitin' this wonderful city. I'll give you the rundown, broken down by area, so you can plan your next meal around which parts you're visitin', startin' with my absolute favorite place, Cattlemen's Steakhouse in Stockyards City.
Stockyards City: Historic Western Dining
Stockyards City has that old-school Western charm that’ll take you straight back to the early 1900s. It’s where I go when I want to soak up a bit of history, do a little boot shopping, and of course, eat like a cowboy.
Cattlemen’s Steakhouse
If you’re gonna only eat at one place while visitin’ Oklahoma City, Cattlemen’s Steakhouse is the #1 place to go by a long shot! This hall of fame steakhouse is the oldest continuously operating restaurant in OKC, servin’ up perfectly cooked steaks, hearty sides, and a touch of local hospitality. If you’re comin’ hungry, I recommend tryin’ the Presidential T-bone, named after President Bush’s historic visit. For a dining experience like no other, you have to try the lamb fries — be sure to have your camera ready!
Notable Picks
Once you’ve had your fill with a few visits to Cattlemen’s, there are a few other cool places in Stockyards City that are worth your time. The McClintock Saloon & Chop House offers excellent steaks and classic cocktails. If you’re in the mood for some Oklahoma BBQ, Oklahoma Smoke Cafe in Stockyards City provides good food and outdoor seating at a decent price.
Oklahoma City Bricktown
If you’re comin’ down to OKC, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll find yourself at the popular Bricktown! From its fantastic nightlife to gorgeous canal views, there’s no shortage of places you can find to get a good bite of food! Parking is relatively easy, with numerous street spaces and several nearby parking garages. Here are some of my absolute favorite restaurants near Bricktown:
Mickey Mantle’s Steakhouse
The classy and upscale steakhouse is the ideal spot for business dinners or romantic date nights. Located conveniently across the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, this is one of Bricktown’s most popular dining spots! The bone-in filet is one of the best cuts you’ll find in the area. Pair your steak with a crab cake appetizer and truffle mac & cheese, and you’ll be leavin’ stuffed and satisfied!
Fuzzy’s Taco Shop
Fuzzy’s is an excellent, quick, fun, and budget-friendly option in Bricktown. It’s the kind of place you can grab some tacos and enjoy some margaritas without needin’ to worry about a reservation. I absolutely love the shredded brisket tacos that are loaded with flavor. For lighter portions, I also recommend the grilled shrimp tacos or the Baja fish tacos.
Bricktown Brewery
If you’re lookin’ for a nice, laid-back restaurant with some handcrafted beer, Bricktown Brewery is the place to go. This pub is one of the original restaurants in the area, known for their rotatin’ selection of local and house-brewed beer. For food, you can’t go wrong with the Hatch green chile burger and some good ol’ sweet potato fries!
Midtown: Trendy, Walkable & Full of Flavor
Midtown is one of the most walkable and vibrant neighborhoods in OKC. Featurin’ a mix of historic Oklahoma charm with modern flair, this is the place I like to go for brunch and to enjoy some happy hour deals. Here are some of my favorite restaurants in the area:
The Hall’s Pizza Kitchen
The Hall’s is a local favorite that is located in a gorgeous two-story brick buildin’. With rooftop seating and great vibes, this place is perfect for dinner dates or business lunches. Known for their tasty wood-fired pizza, my favorite is the Saturday Night, featurin’ pepperoni, spicy sausage, and roasted jalapenos! Pro tip: save room for the delicious cinnamon roll bread pudding — you’ll thank me later!
Cafe Kacao
Bold, delicious, and Latin American, Cafe Kacao is anything but your basic brunch spot. This Guatemalan cafe is known for its vibrant breakfast dishes and strong coffee that’ll get you fired up in no time. I love the Mayan Bowl, packed with pulled pork, sweet plantains, and eggs. For coffee, you can’t go wrong with their iced Horchata Latte! There’s almost always a wait on weekends, but I guarantee it’s 100% worth it.
