From sipping coffee at a trendy downtown café to experiencing cowboy culture and braving thrilling adventures, their whirlwind journey hits all the high notes. Here’s a breakdown of everything they did, including a visit to the iconic Cattlemen’s Cafe for a true taste of Oklahoma.
Elemental Coffee
Matt and Nat began their busy day at Elemental Coffee, a downtown favorite with a minimalist vibe. With all they planned on their one day in Oklahoma City starting with a caffeine boost is recommended. Matt loved the smooth, pour-over coffee, while Nat enjoyed a perfectly spiced chai. They appreciated the café's dedication to small-batch roasting and in-house brewing, making it a great spot to start their Oklahoma City adventure.
Downtown Oklahoma City is clean, walkable, and absolutely charming. If you do have some extra time in your morning take a quick walk around to really take in the charm the city has to offer. Unlike other major cities in the US you will appreciate the slow laid-back vibe of Oklahoma Cities downtown area.
Oklahoma National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum
Next, they visited the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. The museum's exhibits, from Native American dwellings to stunning Western art, left them in awe. They had fun attempting roping skills, laughing at their struggles, and wished they could spend more time exploring. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in cowboy culture and Oklahoma’s rich history.
Cattlemen’s Cafe Oklahoma City Stock Yards
For lunch, Matt and Nat headed to the legendary Cattlemen’s Cafe in the Stockyards. Known for serving up mouthwatering steaks since 1910, the restaurant lived up to the hype. Matt even dared to try the famous lamb fries (deep-fried lamb testicles), which turned out to be surprisingly tasty. Their steaks were cooked to perfection, with simple yet rich flavors. Cattlemen left them full, happy, and with a true taste of Oklahoma.
OKC Riversport Adventure Park
After lunch, they made their way to Riversport Adventure Park for some high-energy fun. They couldn’t whitewater raft but had a blast whitewater tubing. The adrenaline rush had them holding on tight and laughing the entire time. With activities like zip lining, surfing, and kayaking, the park was a highlight of their day, perfect for thrill-seekers of all ages.
The OKC Bricktown District
Their evening took them to the Bricktown District, a lively area with a beautiful canal and plenty of places to explore. They enjoyed a romantic walk along the water and settled in for dinner at Bricktown Brewery. Despite its chain-like feel, they were happy to discover it’s a local spot known for fresh, house-made dishes. It was a delicious way to wrap up their Oklahoma City adventure.
The OKC Wheeler District
Their final stop was the Wheeler District to see the famous Ferris wheel, originally from Santa Monica. Unfortunately, strong winds kept them from riding, but they were given free tickets for next time. Even though they missed the sunset view, they still ended the day with smiles and memories of a fun-filled day in OKC.
