3 Yummy Ways to Use Up Leftover Steak

Ever go to a steakhouse for dinner and find yourself unable to finish your meal? If you’re like most steak lovers, this situation is a rarity. During some dinners, though, no matter how hard you try, you just can’t cram one more bite of that delicious slab of beef in your belly. So what do you do? Ask for a to-go box and take it home, of course!

But what happens the next day? Do you eat that slab of juicy goodness plain? Probably not. Most steak lovers prefer their meat freshly cooked, straight out of the kitchen when it’s the centerpiece of the meal. And if you’re one of those people, how then do you make use of that gorgeous hunk of leftover meat?

Read on for a few delicious and creative ways to put that leftover steak to good use.

Steak Fajitas

If you’re a fan of meals with a Mexican flare, fajitas should be right up your alley. Even better, they’re super quick to make, filling, healthy, and ultra flavorful. To throw together a quick and flavor-packed batch of fajitas, follow these tips:

  • Cut your leftover steak into strips and marinate it in lime juice, soy sauce, olive oil, garlic, pepper, and cumin for at least an hour prior to cooking.
  • When you’re ready to cook the meal, slice up green and red bell peppers, along with some onions, and saute them in a hot skillet with a small amount of vegetable oil.
  • When the veggies are almost done, toss those marinated steak strips in with the veggies to heat them through.
  • Pile your steak and veggies inside warmed flour or corn tortillas, top the whole thing with salsa, and dig in!

Barbecue Steak Pizza

Why settle for premade, generic delivery pizza when you can make your own gourmet steak version at home? You’ll need a premade pizza dough to make this a quick meal, but if you prefer to make your dough from scratch, go ahead!

To make your pizza, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Roll out your pizza dough to your preferred size and toss it in your preheated oven for about 6-10 minutes until the dough firms slightly. Slice up your leftover steak into thin strips and set it aside. When your dough is done cooking, instead of red sauce, spread your favorite jarred barbecue sauce all over the dough and top it with some mozzarella cheese.

Next, lay out your strips of leftover steak on top of the cheese and throw on some smoked sausage (if that’s your style) for extra flavor. If you’re a fan of onions, tossing some sliced red ones on top will round out the flavor profile of the barbecue sauce, steak, and sausage perfectly.

Toss the entire pie in the oven — on a pizza stone if you happen to have one — and let it cook for about 20 minutes. When the crust is golden brown, take the pie out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes, slice it up, and enjoy!

Stir-Fried Chinese Beef and Broccoli

If you’re a fan of oriental dishes, stir-fried beef and broccoli is an excellent way to use up that leftover steak. Plus, it’s a super simple, quick, and healthy meal that requires hardly any time to put together. Here’s how to do it:

  • Cut your leftover steak into thin strips and toss it in a mixture of rice wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, egg white, and a dash of cornstarch. Let it sit while you prepare the broccoli.
  • Blanch and cool fresh broccoli. Add sliced garlic and finely chopped ginger to a hot wok or skillet, and stir fry until fragrant. Add the blanched broccoli to the garlic and ginger, and stir fry for about 30 seconds.
  • Remove the steak strips from the sauce mixture and toss them in with the broccoli, garlic, and ginger. Stir fry the entire mixture for 2-3 minutes, or until the steak is heated.
  • Pour in the sauce mixture and continue to stir fry everything in the pan for another minute.
  • Remove the pan from the heat, add salt or soy sauce to taste, and serve the beef and broccoli over hot white rice. Enjoy!

If you’re not a fan of any of the above dishes, you can also toss your leftover steak in a sandwich, salad, or omelet for a quick, healthy, and delicious meal. When it comes to enjoying your leftover steak in a meal the next day, there’s a virtually endless list of options. Don’t be afraid to get creative — you never know what new flavors you might come up with!
